As part of our drop-in event at Sheffield Energy Hub on 19th and 20th February, our partners at Sheffield City Council are hosting a free walking tour of Sheffield’s Grey to Green and wider SuDS at 1pm each day.
Grey to Green is an award‑winning project that has changed parts of Castlegate, one of Sheffield’s oldest city‑centre areas. It has turned old, tarmacked streets into the UK’s longest “green street” and the biggest retrofitted sustainable drainage system. The area now has colourful plants, better drainage, and is a calmer space for people to walk and cycle.
The project isn’t just about making the area look nicer. The new streets help Sheffield deal with climate change, support people’s wellbeing, and encourage new businesses to invest in the area.
Sheffield City Council has used the same ideas in other parts of the city centre, and Sheffield is now seen internationally as a good example of how green spaces and water features can improve a city.
The tour will last approx. 90 mins – please meet at the Energy Hub at 1pm, wearing sturdy shoes and waterproof clothing if necessary.
