About Us

Connected by Water is an alliance between seven organisations across South Yorkshire. We’ve come together to help our people and places become resilient to the impacts of climate change, which include heavy rainfall and flooding.

Our relationship with our rivers and waterways is complex. They bring great benefits to our wellbeing and nature. But as we experience more extreme weather, they can also put our homes, businesses and lives at risk.

Working in partnership, we’re taking action to reduce the devastating effects of flooding.

We’re united by our vulnerability to flooding in South Yorkshire. Through Connected by Water, we’re united in our response.

Working Together

Collaboration is key to achieving our vision of resilient and adapted people and places in South Yorkshire.

We’re an alliance between the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, City of Doncaster Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Council, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency.

We’re here to manage water and help our communities adapt to the changing climate, prepare for flooding – and recover swiftly when it happens. To do that, we need to combine the skills and experience of all kinds of businesses, organisations and perspectives.

Flooding and the changing climate affect everyone. We want to work with and involve many more in a collective effort to increase our resilience to flooding and climate change. This includes organisations, academics and experts, communities, businesses, farmers, landowners and schools across the region.
